At Axeldog, we make it easy to keep your dog’s favourite essentials looking fresh and feeling comfortable. Follow these care instructions to ensure your designer dog beds, mats, and bags stay clean, comfortable, and stylish for your furry companion.
Covers, Mats, and Bags
Washing Instructions:
- Machine Washable: All Axeldog products are designed to be safely machine washed at 30°C.
- No Tumble Dry: To preserve the materials and maintain their shape, do not tumble dry. Instead, air dry your items naturally.
- Zipped Covers: If your bed or mat has a removable cover, unzip it and separate it from the filling before washing.
- Inner Cushions: Spot clean inner cushions with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid machine washing cushions. See specific instructions below based on your filling type.
Frequency of Cleaning:
- General Use: Wash beds, mats, and bags approximately every two weeks to keep them fresh.
- Heavy Use: For pets that use the items heavily or are messier, weekly washing is recommended.
- Between Washes: Regularly remove fur and debris using a vacuum or lint brush to minimize dirt build up and extend time between washes.
Additional Tips:
- Avoid bleach or harsh cleaners; use gentle detergents to protect fabrics and colours.
- Fasten all zippers and closures before washing to prevent fabric snagging.
- Ensure items are thoroughly dry before reuse to prevent odours or mildew.
Dog Bed Fillings
Memory Foam
Care Instructions:
- The inner cover is made from water-resistant materials to help protect the memory foam filling ; however, we do not recommend submerging the inner cover or foam in water. Doing so can degrade the foam and promote mould growth.
- Spot clean the inner cover by gently dabbing stains with lukewarm water and mild detergent. Avoid rubbing or soaking. Rinse spots with a clean, damp cloth to remove detergent residue.
- Regularly vacuum the cover with a soft brush attachment to remove hair, dust, and debris. Shake out the cushion to maintain its shape.
- Replace the memory foam insert if you notice sagging, permanent indentations, damage, or persistent odours indicating loss of support or hygiene.
Following these steps will keep your dog’s memory foam bed clean, supportive, and comfortable while preserving the foam’s integrity.
Buckwheat Hulls
Care Instructions:
- The inner cover is crafted from water-resistant materials to help protect the buckwheat hulls from moisture; however, we do not recommend submerging the cover or hulls in water. Moisture can cause the hulls to soften, lose shape, and develop mould.
- To freshen the hulls, spread them out thinly on a flat surface in the sun or a warm, dry place for several hours or overnight. This natural airing helps kill bacteria and keeps the hulls fresh.
- If the hulls get wet accidentally, remove and replace them immediately with fresh hulls. Do not attempt to dry wet hulls inside, as this promotes mould.
- For minor moisture or odours, air dry the hulls outside in sunlight or in a warm environment to restore freshness.
- Over time, buckwheat hulls naturally break down and flatten. When this happens, replacement is recommended to maintain the bed’s comfort and support.
